MOSS POINT, Miss. (WLOX) – The Mississippi Department of Education recognizes September as Attendance Awareness Month. The 2024 Chronic Absenteeism Report shows a 0.3% increase in state absenteeism. The Moss Point School District is making sure every child gets the education they deserve, through new truancy efforts. For elementary-aged students, a big factor in attendance is parental involvement. That’s why Escatawpa Upper Elementary rewards both kids and parents for perfect attendance. “We have a monthly drawing for perfect attendance, where the student and the parent or guardian will get a gift basket each,” says guidance counselor Melissa Neese.
