South Mississippi residents anxious for property insurance premium relief are calling the state insurance department about a program that will offer grants to strengthen homes for severe weather, including hurricanes.  The program will offer up to $10,000 each to qualified homeowners, primarily to fortify roofs to standards set by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety, an industry-funded nonprofit. Applications should be available in the fall.

Moss Point standout Devin Booker on USA Olympic team, going for second gold medal in Paris

Moss Point High School graduate and Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker was recently added to the USA Olympic basketball team for the second time in his career and will be going for his second gold medal later this summer. Booker was an NBA All Star this year for the fourth time and named to the All-NBA Third Team after averaging 27.1 points and 6.9 assists over a career-high 36 minutes per game in his ninth professional season.

Two Mississippi Coast natives are coming home and bringing their American Basketball Association team with them. Jerry Asiel Thompson and his wife, Mariah, are bringing the South Coast Sea Turtles of the ABA from California to Mississippi with plans to headquarter in Moss Point. The couple has owned the franchise for two years and is heading into its second with an active team.

A Singing River orthopedic surgeon has become the first surgeon in the state to complete a hip replacement surgery using augmented reality.
