OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. — Ocean Springs High School has been selected as one of five schools in the state to receive a $200,000 grant to establish a robotics program. The grant, funded by the Mississippi Department of Education, will allow the school to purchase the equipment needed to start the program, as well as upgrade technology and fund student participation in robotics competitions, according to superintendent Bonita Coleman-Potter. The program will be implemented for the coming school year and will be a part of the Career & Technical (formerly Vo-Tech) Center. Although student will engage in some building of robots, the program’s primary function is to serve as a pre-engineering curriculum with an emphasis on mechanical engineering.
