Pascagoula begins making base oils

PASCAGOULA, Miss. – Chevron’s Pascagoula refinery’s $1.4 billion premium base oil plant has begun commercial production. It’s expected to produce about 25,000 barrels per day of Group II premium base oil, which goes into automotive, industrial and process oils, metalworking fluids and greases. Base oils produced at the Pascagoula plant will add to capacity from the company’s refinery in Richmond, Calif., and a joint venture facility in Yeosu, Korea, doubling Chevron’s production capacity and positioning it to be the world’s largest producer of premium base oil. Base oils from the new facility will supply customers in the U.S. East, Europe and Latin America. (Sources: Mississippi Press, 07/21/14, Zacks, 07/22/14)
