MOSS POINT, Miss. Northrop Grumman has added an operational area to its Moss Point manufacturing center. The 101,000-square-foot Moss Point facility has been doing work on unmanned fixed-wing and rotary-wing systems since 2006. The company said Monday that the expanded production facility first announced in May 2017 can now accommodate projects on manned aircraft systems and will bring new jobs to the region. Back in 2017, it was announced that the additional projects will include sub-assembly work on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. Kevin Mitchell, vice president of global operations at Northrops aerospace systems sector, said the company saw the number of employees at the site grow by more than 40 percent since 2017. Gov. Phil Bryant and members of Mississippis federal and state delegations attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony that marked the official launch of the new machine shop section at the Moss Point facility. Northrop Grumman also celebrated another important milestone in the state last week with an event recognizing 50 years of supporting military customers at the Northrop facility in Ocean Springs. Mississippi Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves as well as local dignitaries and elected officials were on hand for the event recognizing Northrop Grummans Maritime Systems leadership in designing and developing combat management systems and electronic suites for over 50 ships in four major ship classes.
