OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. — Mayor Connie Moran and the Board of Aldermen intend to create an official “Entertainment and Art District” that will allow businesses within the district to take advantage of a new state law relative to alcohol consumption. House Bill 1223, signed into law by Gov. Phil Bryant, will go into effect July 1. The new law allows patrons inside “leisure and recreational districts” to buy alcoholic drinks by the glass in bars or restaurants and them walk around with them within the district. Current state law only allows drinkers to take beer, but not hard liquor, out of bars or restaurants where they were purchased. The new state law will not allow people to buy a drink in one bar and then carry it into another. The city’s no glass container law will also remain in effect. (Source: gulflive, 06/03/16)
