PASCAGOULA — A downtown that is both historic and industrial has been transformed into a high-tech hot spot. Pascagoula’s entire downtown has been equipped with Wi-Fi, from the Pascagoula River to Pascagoula Street and from U.S. 90 south to Dupont. A couple of years ago, the city undertook the effort, and now has 17 Wi-Fi boxes on poles around the city. Although it’s not unusual for cities to offer specific hot spots, having a general area that’s covered is unique, said Stephen Newell, city IT director. The project was conceived as an economic tool for downtown businesses. (Source: Sun Herald, 08/23/13)
