Port wants money for export facility

PASCAGOULA, Miss. — Port of Pascagoula commissioners agreed to ask the Jackson County Board of Supervisors to borrow up to $24 million to be used in building a $30 million specialized wood pellet exporting facility on Bayou Casotte. Florida-based Green Circle Bio Energy Inc., which plans to build a $115 million wood pellet plant in George County, will use the site to export up to 500,000 tons of pellets annually. Supervisors are expected to consider the port request at their Nov. 18 meeting. There will be weeks of public notice and then a hearing — likely in December — before the bonds could be issued, said Port Director Mark McAndrews. (Source: Mississippi Press, 11/12/13)
