PASCAGOULA, Miss. — The Port of Pascagoula will use a $14 million federal grant to create a more direct and efficient rail connection into the Port of Pascagoula. This allows the Port to accept deliver from longer trains, ultimately opening up new Mississippi markets for export through the Port. The project also relocates a railroad interchange that blocks traffic every day in downtown Pascagoula and eliminates the need for 16 rail crossings through Moss Point and Pascagoula. The interchange will be moved to east of Bayou Casotte. “This has been a cooperative effort. It has been a goal of people in these parts for many, many years and had the support of the (Jackson County) Board of Supervisors, Moss Point and Pascagoula, MDA and the delegation,” said Port Director Mark McAndews. The grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation will pay for the full price of the rail relocation project. (Source: Mississippi Press, Sun Herald, 09/05/13)
