A new historical marker has been unveiled in the city of Ocean Springs. The marker was placed Wednesday at L&N Train Depot, widely considered a cornerstone of the thriving coastal town’s history as it serves as an entryway to the downtown area. The L&N Train Depot was constructed in 1907 and served vital for transportation, commerce, and local life in Ocean Springs until its decommission in 1965. Still, the building stood strong and was eventually turned into a multi-use facility that currently includes the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce, Visitor’s Center, and The Walter Anderson Shop: Realizations.

USS Richard M. McCool finally left Ingalls in Pascagoula at the end of August after years of construction, beginning in 2018. The LPD 29 is now making its way east to Pensacola. This is Ingalls 13th San Antonio-class destroyer delivered to the Navy. USS Richard M. McCool (LPD29) Commanding Officer Captain Jeff Baker says, “It’s the Mississippi Gulf Coast shipbuilders. I couldn’t be prouder. I got to know a lot of them. Amazing Americans just doing God’s work, right? If you have not been to Mississippi in the summer, you’d understand how hard it is to be on these ships welding without air conditioning or running wire or painting. Any trade that they have, they just build great ships. I would argue the country at large owes them more thanks than they get.”
