Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula received major news this week. Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro informed congressional leaders that the U.S. Navy will pursue an $11.5 billion multi-ship buy for four America-class and San Antonio-class amphibious warships through Fiscal year 2029. All four ships will be built at Huntington Ingalls’ Pascagoula shipyard.

Moss Point High becomes first Coast school to offer CTE Dual Credit with MGCCC

Moss Point High School is making history by being the first on the coast to offer a Dual Enrollment Credit with its CTE classes in partnership with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. “We have an opportunity to show our community that the CTE is not just a place where we send students who are interested in pursuing a career immediately after graduation.” CTE Director Billy Carroll said. “But also, we are a place where we are offering and providing an opportunity for students to get a jump start on a college education while here at the CTE.” The two dual credit CTE courses offered are Introduction to Welding Safety and Early Childhood Profession because they already offer prerequisite classes for those curriculums.
Several Ocean Springs construction projects progressing on Government Street

If you travel down Government Street in Ocean Springs, you’ll find several construction projects going on. Ocean Springs resident Mark Horn watched construction workers give life to the future Artisan Hotel on Monday. Developers say this new hotel will have eight hotel rooms upstairs and an Italian Restaurant on the street level. Horn said he spends a lot of time on Government Street and that he’s always thinking of ways to make the area more prosperous.
Moss Point receives grant to start pre-K program

Moss Point School District has been awarded a $900,000 grant to implement a pre-K program. The money will be spent over three years from August of this year through the end of the 2027 school year. Each year, the program will be evaluated for completion of services, a performance evaluation and the availability of funds to continue the grant to the second and third years. Additional opportunities will be available in Spring 2025.
Moss Point school board honors superintendent, positive changes in district

The Moss Point school board honored Dr. Harper with a plaque for the positive changes he has brought to the city’s school district as he enters his fourth year. “We saw a thriving student base that was eager to learn that had a passion to learn and saw a lot of dedicated school personnel from teacher assistants to those on the front lines everyday teaching,” Dr. Harper said.
Gautier signs $3.6M agreement to improve water, sewer drainage systems

Tuesday afternoon, the city of Gautier officially signed a Project Partnership Agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District. This collaboration with the city of Gautier and the U.S. Army Corps is part of the Mississippi Environmental Infrastructure Program. Totaling 3.6 million dollars, this investment is aimed at enhancing the city’s water, sewer, and drainage systems and is funded through a cost-sharing agreement, with $2.7 million being provided by the federal government and $900,000 by the city of Gautier. Mayor Casey Vaughan says Gautier is a step ahead with this project because they already have some of the infrastructure and engineering completed, so they are moving on to the next steps.
