Australian MQ-4C Triton being prepared for maiden flight

The first of the three Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) ordered by Australia is being prepared for its first test flight in mid-2023. The Australian Tritons are progressing to schedule, Northrop Grumman officials told Janes . “The flight of the first Australian Triton, ‘AUS1,’ is expected to happen in the summer of 2023,” said Rho Cauley-Bruner, Triton programme manager. “AUS1 is now in the test phase with the first flight scheduled to happen in [the third quarter] Q3 [of] this year. We anticipate delivery of that aircraft to Australia in mid-2024. [The] AUS2 wingmate occurred in January 2023 and that build is progressing to plan. AUS3 is in production in Moss Point, with a scheduled delivery to Palmdale, where it will be mated with its wing in April 2023,” Cauley-Bruner added.

Navy’s hypersonic launcher is headed to flight testing next year

Even as Lockheed Martin is working on the launcher, the weapon control system and more, Ingalls Shipbuilding is on contract to modify destroyer Zumwalt, so the futuristic-looking ship will be prepared to receive these new capabilities during a 2025 refit. Ingalls Shipbuilding President Kari Wilkinson told reporters last month the Navy still hadn’t finalized the statement of work for the ship refit, as the sea service weighs how extensive a job it may be to install this new weapon onto Zumwalt and sister ships Michael Monsoor and Lyndon B. Johnson.

Public meeting on Ocean Springs superintendent search

Ocean Springs School District is hosting a town hall meeting tonight to update everyone on the search for the next superintendent. The meeting is at six tonight at the Ocean Springs Upper Elementary auditorium, located on the Holcomb side of campus. Tonight’s meeting will allow the community to provide feedback on expectations and goals for the future of the Ocean Springs School District.

HII Hosts U.S. Rep. Mike Ezell at Ingalls Shipbuilding

Ingalls Shipbuilding division hosted U.S. Rep. Mike Ezell, R-Miss., yesterday for his first official visit to the shipyard as representative of Mississippi’s 4th Congressional District. During his visit, Ezell met with Ingalls leadership and toured the shipyard including amphibious transport dock ship Richard M. McCool Jr. (LPD 29). “We appreciated Representative Ezell investing his time to see firsthand the quality work that our shipbuilders do every day for our Navy and Coast Guard partners,” Ingalls Shipbuilding President Kari Wilkinson said. “Touring the shipyard brings perspective to the scope, scale and significance of what we consider a privilege to do for our country every day.”

Ingalls engineer honored during Black Engineer of the Year conference

An engineer at Ingalls Shipbuilding was one of seven employees across all Huntington Ingalls Industries divisions recognized for achievements in science, technology, engineering and math during the 37th Black Engineer of the Year Award STEM Conference. “I am incredibly proud of these employees for setting the example of excellence across the company,” said HII president/CEO Chris Kastner, who attended the conference. “There is a special energy in that ballroom among people who feel seen, respected, and valued for their work. To our winners I say thank you, and congratulations.”

Ezell takes first tour of Ingalls as U.S. congressman

As a Jackson County native, lifelong resident, and sheriff, Mike Ezell had made many visits to Ingalls Shipbuilding, but never as a congressman. That changed Thursday, when Ezell, now a U.S. Representative from Mississippi’s 4th Congressional District, took his first official tour of the Pascagoula shipyard as a member of congress.

Governor announces plan to improve infrastructure, foster growth in state 

Feb. 20, 2023 

Gov. Tate Reeves today announced his plan to drive economic development and growth in Mississippi by investing state funds in infrastructure projects throughout the state. Projects that will help with site development efforts also are included to entice more high-paying jobs from businesses that may locate in Mississippi. “To better position our state for further economic growth, we need to invest in our state’s roads and increase the number of project-ready sites across Mississippi,” said Reeves said. “These investments will go an incredibly long way toward giving Mississippi the competitive advantage it needs to land more economic development projects and deliver more high-quality, high-paying jobs for Mississippians.”
