Moving toward growing economic development, today Moss Point’s Redevelopment Authority held their second meeting. Making a comeback after 20 years of inactivity, the Redevelopment Authority has plans to help Moss Point grow economically. First, the board wants to look back at what redevelopment plans were made two decades ago then decide what areas of the city to focus on to start new projects.
Price for rent continues to soar across the Coast

“It is insane to watch,” Kelly Northlee said. “I’m like a whiteboard person. And so, every time I go and erase and have a new tenant and we increase the rent, I mean, I’m not increasing it $50 or $100 like normal; I’m increasing it hundreds of dollars.” On Wednesday, the average price for rent on the Coast is $1,850, which is about $100 higher than last week. According to Northlee, the most sought-after location is Ocean Springs.
5 Gulf Coast schools named Mississippi Emerging Science of Reading Schools

The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has designated seven elementary schools as Mississippi Emerging Science of Reading Schools (SoR) for the 2022-2023 school year, five of which are coast schools. North Bay Elementary and Waveland Elementary in the Bay Waveland School District, as well as Beach Elementary, Jackson Elementary and Martin Bluff Elementary in the Pascagoula-Gautier School District all received the SoR designation. This recognition is for schools that have trained teachers in the science of reading, exemplified a change of instructional practices, and embodied a school culture that focuses on building skillful, strong readers in kindergarten through third grade.
Jackson County School District discusses potential solar farm

The Jackson County Board of Education held their monthly meeting Monday evening to discuss a potential new project. The board hosted the meeting to update on the potential solar farm project on District 16 section property. Since December 2021, the district has been working on a framework for an agreement that would satisfy the interest of the developer, the state, and the district.
Two Vancleave residents among medical scholarship winners

Two Vancleave residents are among five Mississippi College students who have been selected for a scholarship program designed to increase the number of physicians and dentists serving rural areas of Mississippi. Madison Ely, a junior majoring in Chemistry Medical Sciences; and Austin Frisbie, a senior majoring in Biology Medical Sciences, are the two Vancleave residents chosen for the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program.
