Ingalls President Kari Wilkinson elected to Mississippi Power Board of Directors

On Tuesday, Mississippi Power announced that Kari Wilkinson, President of Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula and Executive Vice President of Huntington Ingalls Industries, has been elected to serve on the utility’s board of directors. Wilkinson started her career at Ingalls in 1996 as a naval architect, progressing through leadership roles in a broad spectrum of functions across the shipyard.  In April 2021, Wilkinson was named President of Ingalls Shipbuilding where she is now in charge of overseeing all programs and operations at the 800-acre shipyard. She also serves on the board of directors for the Mississippi Economic Council, Gulf Coast Business Council, and the Jackson County Economic Development Foundation

6 companies win Navy awards for continued LUSV studies

Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc., Pascagoula, Miss., was awarded a $13,071,106 firm-fixed-price modification to a previously awarded contract for continued studies of an LUSV. The contract modification includes options that, if exercised, would bring its cumulative value to $ 15,071,106. Work will be performed in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and is expected to be completed by September 2024. If all options are exercised, work will continue through September 2024.

Singing River Health execs call retirees to the table, discuss potential sale

Before the decision is made to sell or to keep Singing River Health System, the executive team is calling all its retirees to the table for a discussion. The health care group held a closed meeting Tuesday at the Pascagoula Senior Center. About 50 people from the retired Singing River Health community attended in person and over Zoom to learn more about what selling or keeping the establishment would mean for them. “They’re, you know, the legendary people who allowed for Singing River to be what it is today, and they need to understand this information probably most of all and how it affects them,” CEO Tiffany Murdock told WLOX. “You know, it was just good to have a conversation with them. You know, change is really hard. And it’s scary. I mean, these people have been through a lot already.”

Engineering Upgrades

Electrical engineering lab equipment is being installed in newly remodeled facilities at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Jackson County Campus, which houses MSU’s Engineering on the Coast program. The program allows students to pursue degrees in electrical, mechanical and industrial engineering while living and working on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Students can transfer up to 64 hours of coursework from MGCCC or any other institution toward an MSU Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.

New parking solutions underway for downtown Ocean Springs

The Ocean Springs Board of Aldermen accepted a downtown traffic and parking study at a meeting in City Hall. The plan was put together with ideas collected from the mayor, board members, and stakeholders in the area. Mayor Kenny Holloway said the plan was very well thought out and has a lot of promising ideas. “We’ve been working on it for several months now. We had to have it approved by MDOT because they funded it,” Holloway said. In the plan, there are proposed solutions that include enhancing signage for available parking, accommodating parking for golf carts, considering meter parking, and adding a parking structure that is already underway.

The team at Amtrak, along with Deputy Secretary of Transportation Polly Trottenberg, got together for an exciting day for the future of railroads along the Coast. The day began with a ground-breaking on a new platform at the Bay St. Louis Depot for the future Amtrak station. This is the first of five locations to break ground for construction with the other locations being New Orleans, Biloxi, Mobile, and Pascagoula
