After the pandemic forced leaders to press pause, the Jackson County Industrial Trade Show made its long-awaited return Tuesday. “Everybody is glad to be back together,” said VT Bollinger Community Relations and Government Affairs Director Mark Scott. “There’s a lot of conversations. A lot of meeting old friends and making new friends.” It was a chance to ask questions, network, and showcase products. Business owner Joshua Borden took full advantage of the exposure. “Our total aim is to always market ourselves,” Borden said. “We want to be known and have that brand awareness. So with events like this, we also get to have our brand to be well-represented, to where people will think about us when they think about pressure washing, window cleaning, or concrete cleaning.”

As temperatures increase outside, business is picking up inside at Nuru Juice Bar. Owner Marcel Kinnard believes there will be an even greater uptick in traffic once the Rail Line Restoration project is completed. “I think it’s going to bring a lot more people down here to Pascagoula, which we need,” Kinnard said. “I think it will serve us good.” The Rail Line Restoration project is designed to give the historic Pascagoula Train Depot and Anchor Square a makeover. The depot has been down since 2005 when Hurricane Katrina damage left it vacant. The historic building will become a restaurant and microbrewery.

In 2013, the City of Pascagoula applied for a $551,000 Community Heritage grant from the state to restore the historic L&N Train Depot in downtown Pascagoula. The depot, built in 1904 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in the 1970s, was in bad shape, needing major roof and structural repair. Without the grant and lacking the necessary cash on hand to complete the repair, the City looked to sell the depot to a private developer who would complete the restorations.

After welding on actual machines, the graduates will take proficiency exams and, if they pass, will get the same certification as professional welders set by the National Center for Construction Education and Research. Now, the Mobile Welding Training Center moves to South Mississippi Correctional Institution in Leakesville in Greene County. Thirty-two inmates there, all men, are next to train for their N-C-C-E-R welding certifications. Ingalls Shipyards in Pascagoula announced just last year that it needed 3,000 more welders. That’s when Commissioner Burl Cain retrofitted a Mayflower moving van into a Mobile Welding Center instead of building expensive welding classrooms at each prison.

New MS Coast brewery has killer street tacos inspired by grandma’s recipe from Mexico

One of the newest breweries on the Coast has a great beer selection and even better deck, but they’re also making authentic street tacos on the weekend you don’t want to miss. Nolan Keith’s Lost Spring Brewing Company has been open in Ocean Springs for about six months and is already making a name for itself. Lost Spring is small but has a full bar with inside and outside seating. The deck — in my opinion — is by far the coolest on the Coast, with a high ceiling, ivy covered walls, and comfortable chairs and couches. It is hands down the place to hang out with friends and enjoy a pleasant early summer evening.
