Announcements show region’s promise

Three announcements Tuesday indicate the region is showing a lot of momentum. That’s according to George Freeland, executive director of the Jackson County Economic Development Foundation in Pascagoula, Miss. One was a $71.6 million modification of a previously awarded contract to Northrop Grumman to build six next-generation Fire Scout unmanned helicopters in Moss Point. The other announcement was in New Orleans, where Lockheed Martin said it would build tanks for liquefied natural gas at the Michoud Assembly plant. The third was word that Chevron’s base oil plant in Pascagoula will start up later this year. Mike Worth, executive vice president for downstream and chemicals at Chevron, told investors that when it comes online, the plant will be the largest supplier of premium base oils in the world.
