Ingalls to rebuild East Bank yard

PASCAGOULA, Miss. – After well over a decade of inactivity, the East Bank yard of Ingalls Shipbuilding is being rebuilt and reopened in order to meet expected increase in demand for naval vessels. The yard was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, leading to relocation of its work to the larger yard on the West Bank of the river. Huntington Ingalls said the rebuilding will take place over the next two years. The east bank site is the original site of Ingalls when it was established in 1938. Ingalls currently has 11,500 workers, but there’s no indication whether it will mean more workers. (Sources: multiple, including AP via the Clarion Ledger, ExecutiveBiz, Marine Log, 04/13/18)
