The Mississippi Legislature authorized $1 million in bond funding that will help re-establish continuous rail service from Corinth to Meridian and on to the ports of Pascagoula and Mobile. The funding for the Rail Authority of East Mississippi will assist in the engineering and design of a 56-mile shortline rail project to connect the Meridian Southern Railroad at Waynesboro to the Mississippi Export Railroad at Lucedale. Senate Bill 2906, which authorized the funding, passed the Senate 48-4 and the House 75-43. (Source: Sun Herald, 04/02/15)
